Win the Morning, Win the Day
How you spend the first hour of your morning sets the psychological tone for the rest of your day. If you wake up, immediately grab your phone, and start scrolling through stressful news or urgent emails, your brain starts the day in a reactive, anxious state. It’s time to build a mindful morning routine.
Step 1: The Digital Detox Wake-Up
Buy a traditional alarm clock and banish your smartphone from the bedroom. When you wake up, spend the first 20 minutes completely unplugged. Use this time to hydrate—drink a large glass of water, perhaps with a squeeze of fresh lemon, to kickstart your metabolism.
Step 2: Movement and Breath
You don’t need to do an intense HIIT workout. Simply doing 10 minutes of light stretching, yoga, or deep breathing exercises gets your blood flowing and signals to your body that it is time to wake up. Focus on taking deep, intentional breaths.
Step 3: Intention Setting
- Journaling: Write down three things you are grateful for.
- The Top 3: Identify the three most important tasks you need to accomplish today. Don’t write a list of 20 things; focus only on the top 3 needle-movers.
By taking control of your morning, you transition from a state of chaos to a state of calm, focused energy, ready to tackle whatever the day throws at you.
